Trigger Points

Trigger Points are taught, hyper irritable spots within the muscle fibres and fascia. They are often felt as nodules or tight bands within the muscle and can be painful and tender to the touch.

Triggers Points are very common and are often known as Myofascial Trigger Points as they are closed associated with Myofascial Pain. They can refer pain to other areas of the body and often a twitch response can also be felt when running your fingers over the area.  Common causes of Trigger Points are injury, Repetitive Strain,  Stress and Anxiety, Muscle splinting due to Orthopaedic issues and Over exercise. 

Symtoms:

  • Pain

  • Muscle Tenderness

  • Twitching/flinching of the skin or a 'tickle' spot

  • Muscle Weakness in limbs

  • Reluctance to be groomed

  • Yelping when being handles or picked up

  • Fatiguing quickly when exercising

  • Change in character and demeanour

  • Stiff When rising

  • Slowing down/aging over night
